Fair enough if the facts are concealed before the ICC commit, although it's frustrating having to wait.

It seems wrong to me for Hair to act as judge, jury and executioner. The whole matter lacked diplomacy, on both sides. Looking at it dispassionately I am inclined to consider this - where does the initial wrong lie - is it the alleged ball tampering or the umpires take on things. The evidence doesn't (yet) stack up in favour of the umpire, who seems to have a track record of controversy, particularly with regard to the sub-continent - I can't quite grasp his reasoning without the solid evidence that seems to be needed to make such a judgement - and in any event the match referee should have made the final call rather than the umpire directly in the middle.

Surely Hair had some reason to assume something was amiss. He could be right or on the other hand he could not. I believe the referee should have been immediately consulted. It seems the Pakistan team took a stance - they were bound to protest their innocence in any event - and refused to come out of the dressing room for just a few minutes. The umpire, convinced of his correct assessment, took the law literally and ended the match. It's a great shame that he took this position as people were denied a natural result - Pakistan really ought to have wrapped up the match on the final day.

My gut feeling is that the ball was frayed from the beating Petersen and co had given it. The evidence seems flimsy at best (as I see it at the moment) and the benefit of the doubt ought to go to the Pakistan team, even allowing for any previous - though they aren't the first team to be accused of tampering. The British press don't seem to be too sympathetic to Hair either.
